SINGIDA PURCHASES 300 DESKS TO MEET JPM'S ULTIMUTUM


The municipal council has purchased 300 desks worth Sh16.5 million for three primary schools in a bid to reduce desks shortage in public schools.
The desks were dispersed to Unyianga, Manguanjuki and Unyankhae Primary Schools in the municipality.
Speaking to the Citizen, Singida Municipal council executive director Joseph Mchina said the move aims at implementing President John Magufuli directive’s to address desks’ shortage before June 30.
He added that primary and secondary schools in the region have a shortage of 3,061 desks.
“We are optimistic that we will meet the deadline as the president directed; stakeholders are being involved to solve the problem,” said Mr Mchina.
Unyiaga, Unyankhae and Manguanjuki head teachers commended the municipal council for purchasing the desks.
Unyiaga primary school head teacher Lucy Ng’imba said no pupil will be sitting on the floor while following lessons.
The delighted head teacher also appealed to parents and other stakeholders to support the government in its efforts to improve education sector in the country.
